I was skeptical to try this place b/c of the food listed on the menu were out of my comfort zone. What a treat! Best dinner experience I ever! Drinks, apps, dinner and desserts and the service were all top notch. We let our server pick for us since, he did an amazing job.

Xochi is always consistent. This is the 3rd time we visit and is always a 10/10. Not only are the waiters always friendly and give good recommendations, but the food is full of flavor, and every time we visit, we try different dishes. This time, we had four. Started with #1 Costillas de puerco en mole chicatana (pork ribs in ant mole) exquisite, the ribs cooked so good the meat fell easily from the bone and they give you blue tortillas to make it a taco if you want. Amazing! Then #2 was a Tlayuda de Res (grilled steak, mole negro, quesillo, greens) I ate it with an habanero salsa and was delicious, the meat well seasoned and the mole testy as always. After that, #3 was the enchiladas in mole pasilla, which the beans let me tell you were so flavorful! Probably the best frijoles negros I've had in this country so far! And not to mention the chicken inside the enchiladas had a unique flavor I've never before tasted on enchiladas and was perfection. The last one was Barbacoa de Res en Zaachila, but I didn't get to try that one. My boyfriend did, but he seemed to love it. Overall, the ambiance was perfect for dinner allowing you to enjoy the experience to the fullest. Definitely will come back. 10/10

Phenomenal experience and food! The waitstaff was knowledgeable and friendly. The food and drinks we tried were exceptional! Try the mole sampler was such a great way to sample the mole from this region. My husband doesn't like mole but loved this. The dessert is beyond explanation. We had a corn three ways dessert. It's looks like corn but isn't. Just try it, I promise you will not be disappointed.

Super cool authentic Mexican place. The food they server is form the Northern Region of Mexico I believe which is a bit different than the classic Mexican food that many people are used it. Restaurant had a good vibe inside so perfect for many occasions: date, business meeting, birthday celebration and so on. Service is super nice! If you are downtown Houston and are craving some food, most definitely a great spot to hit up. MAKE SURE TO GET THE CHURROS FOR DESSERT.

I have been wanting to try more Oaxacan foods and different moles. Xochi caught my eye while I was in Houston for work. Overall, I enjoyed my solo dinner here. The food was pretty good, especially their signature chocolate dessert. The atmosphere was relaxing and I was able to people watch from my corner. The outdoor patio looks comfortable for a nice day. Service was good. Robolano 3/5 Sea bass ceviche. Beautifully plated but underwhelming in taste for me. The raw fish was fresh, but I thought something was missing, flavor wise, in the ceviche--a bit more heat would have been perfect to balance the dish. There were jalapeños as part of the sauce on the plate but not within the ceviche. The dish could be elevated by mixing in some diced jalapeño. The slices of cucumber wrapping around the ceviche was also a missed opportunity to my mind. A little bit of pickling would have been great. Mole selection 4/5 I read that Xochi is known for its moles so I decided to sample four. I am still new to the world of moles and on my first taste, none of the four stood out. But in grew on me. By the end, I particularly enjoyed the red spicy sauce and the two black sauces (one was more bitter and had dark chocolate notes, while the other one had a slight kick). The yellow sauce was my least favorite and the only one I didn't finish. Cacao Highlight of my meal and a dream for any chocolate lover. Getting to try this was so special given I learned that Xochi sources their chocolate from Oaxaca. Not only is the dessert a piece of art--the realistically looking cacao pod (I thought it was the actual pod) is made with white chocolate and is edible--the "chocolate textures" and flavors inside and on the plate were divine. There was a rich dark chocolate sauce, chocolate soil, chocolate cake, what tasted like Belgium chocolate ice cream, chocolate mousse, "passion fruit chocolate cloud," chocolate crunch, and a passion fruit curd. I loved the different flavors of tanginess, sweet, and bitterness. I tried them individually and then started pairing the textures and flavors. This would be a great dessert to share between 2-3 people. I definitely couldn't finish it myself.

Coming here had been a long time want. I ended up on a random Sunday after church.... and the buffet was fabulous. Sunday brunch buffets in houston so far have been good, but Xochi takes the cake so far. The salads, main dishes. And sweets are so wonderfully curated they make a Sunday that much more perfect. The service was superb, and the buffet was so good. I truly enjoyed all the healthy options. Xochi is a great place for family or friends to gather.

Happened to be staying at the Marriott Marquis and decided to eat here since it was adjacent to the hotel. It was a great decision. It is always a plus when patio seating is available. The drinks were amazing and the food was on point. Xochi is an authentic Mexican gem! The vibe, food, and drinks are amazing. The ambiance is vibrant, the dishes are bursting with flavor, and the handcrafted cocktails are a must-try. I highly recommend this restaurant while visiting Houston and, of course, even for locals, for an unforgettable Mexican dining.

I stopped by Xochi for lunch on a Thursday for my birthday. Located downtown, we parked at the metered parking across the street. Valet is also an option. With this Mexican restaurant being located close to Discovery Green, self-parking is not easy. But definitely worth it for a Hugo Ortega restaurant. One of Houston's most famous chefs, and a James Beard winner at that, I've tried out a lot of his other restaurants in town. Xochi had been on my list for a while. The restaurant is attached to the Marriott Marquis. We were seated promptly and started to look over the menu. The ambiance at Xochi is nice. Fresh and modern with an emphasis on Mexican decor. Hugo Ortega is from Oaxaca which is renowned in Mexico for its cuisine. I started off with a Mexican beer I had never had before and then tlayuda de res. The tlayuda is a popular street food in Oaxaca and it was my first time having it. The best way to describe it is think of a Mexican pizza. Start with a crisp large tortilla and then add skirt steak, chicilo mole (the sauce), quesillo (the cheese), and black beans. It's a visually appealing dish and something different than anything I've ever had. Not my favorite but the beef was flavorful. The service was fantastic. Our waiter was attentive and had an attention to detail. You can tell that Hugo trains his staff very well. He asked us if we were celebrating anything and we told him that it was my birthday. They provided me with a complimentary flan with "Happy Birthday" written in chocolate and a candle. Super nice of them! We also tried their Oaxacan hot chocolate and churros. The hot chocolate is made tableside which is a cool experience. The churros were delightful---one of my favorite desserts but the hot chocolate was lukewarm so this was a mess. Overall, a little room to tie up some loose ends but a great restaurant!
